Brocade

Its finely cut foliage sets ‘Brocade’ apart from other Saunders’ introductions which have fairly similar flowers. There is a nice specimen at Hamilton College (lower photo taken in 2015).

I am a little concerned that we may not have the right plant because I don’t see a lot of the type of shading on the petals found in other cultivars in the Tea Rose group.  I had to check back with the listing in the Wister book to be sure it was really in this category. Any thoughts?

After reading Silvia’s notes on this plant I see that the original description of blooms as “deep reddish- creamy yellow” were superseded by ” yellow, suffused and edged reddish” and a comment “I don’t know where I got this description” referring to the original catalogue wording. Perhaps it needs to be moved into the Roman Gold group but I am now confident I have the correct plant.
